All creatures, big and small, gather around – the festive season is here! But don’t take any stress. Even if Hemulens and Fillyjonks would be running about in a hurry, take a cue from the Moomins and celebrate the holidays your own way!
When the Moomins hear about Christmas for the first time in the story "The Fir Tree" (from the book Tales from Moominvalley, 1963), they decide to prepare for the arrival of this unknown creature in their eccentric ways.
They decorate the fir tree with seashells and chandelier prisms, slip unusual gifts under its branches, and go into hiding. After learning there's nothing frightening about Christmas, they choose to enjoy it together in the way that is most natural to them: by going to sleep.
So, get as quirky as you like with your own festivities. Put a red rose on top of your fir tree, make yourself a wreath from conifer branches, and turn a bauble into a fun necklace if you fancy. Prepare a surprising spread of unusual treats and invite your family, friends, and neighbours over. Or, skip the hemulenious and fillyjonkan hustle and bustle altogether, and sleep through the whole thing like nothing happened.
