We love our community of Moomin mug collectors, who can be found all around the world! While preparing for Moomin's Day, we reached out to our beloved collector community to learn about their passion for collecting, what the Moomins mean to them, and how they celebrate the annual big day.

Alice, 27, Sweden
For Alice, collecting Moomin mugs is more than just a hobby—it's a part of who she is. The mugs have been a consistent source of joy and color in her life. She picks her mug of the day based on her outfit and mood. The colors, characters, and stories inspire her creativity.
Since my mug collection is the most wonderful thing I own, I want to see it every day (and show it off to anyone who visits). I have them lined up in a display cabinet in our kitchen, where they can be seen through glass doors.

She places the larger mugs, such as the ABC mugs, on a bookshelf where she also stores her collection of Tove Jansson books.
Just like Moominpappa I love to sail. I did bring two of my favorite mugs with me on this year’s vacation in our sailboat, Sailing with Nibling and Too-ticky, and Sea Breeze. Before we go sailing, I carefully wrap the mugs in towels. They are treated like the treasures they are!

Vigleik, 39, Norja
Moomins hold a special place in Vigleik’s heart. He enjoys hunting for new Moomin mugs and expanding his collection. Having collected Moomin mugs for over a decade, he now owns more than 120 mugs, which he displays in a cabinet at his home in Norway.
The mugs bring me joy, and I love admiring all the beautiful designs. The fine details of the illustrations always lift my spirits. I cherish all the characters and stories from Tove Jansson.

His favorite mugs are the limited-edition In the Mountains mug, created exclusively for the Norwegian market, and the Finnair Journey mug.
Vigleik plans on celebrating Moomin’s Day by making sure to get the special Moomin’s Day mug to add to his collection.
I have many friends who think it’s a bit excessive to collect so many mugs, but this is a really enjoyable and fulfilling hobby for me. I love searching for new mugs to add to my collection.

Aliisa, 23, Finland
Aliisa received her first Moomin mug as a child as a birthday gift. Her collecting hobby really took off when she became fascinated with learning more about Moomin mugs and their stories. Aliisa’s entire family is aware of her collecting hobby. When Aliisa was searching for rarer Moomin mugs, the whole family pitched in by rummaging through their own cupboards.
I loved watching the Moomin TV show as a child, and I've read almost all of Tove Jansson's books. My first summer job was at Moominworld, which was a dream come true. That laid the foundation for my interest in Moomins, and now as an adult, it feels wonderful to continue maintaining that interest through collecting Moomin mugs.

Pictured is Aliisa with her favorite mug from the 1990s. Behind her, a display cabinet holds her organized collection by eras, themes, and characters, including rare mugs like the Fazer mug, Moomintroll Daydreaming mug, and Sea Breeze Platinum mug. The Moomin’s Day mug 2024, Spring, will also be added to this collection soon.
I don't drink from the mugs in the display cabinet except on special occasions. On the morning of my graduation party, my family and I shared coffee together, each of us choosing our favorite mug. Afterward, we carefully cleaned the mugs by hand and returned them to the cabinet.

Aliisa recalls her most memorable experience involving Moomin mugs as the time she and her father waited outside an Iittala store the night before Moomin’s Day to get the special edition Moomin mug. She spent the entire night chatting with fellow collectors about their shared passion until the store opened the next morning.
Kukka, 46, Japan
Kukka has been collecting Moomin mugs for 10 years. She loves how Teema's practical design as tableware fits perfectly with the charming Moomin characters on each mug. Holding one brings her pure joy, making each piece special.
I believe my first encounter with the Moomins happened when I was in elementary school. I found a Moomin novel on my parents' bookshelf and decided to read it. I was captivated by the Moomin family, their friends in Moominvalley, and the mysterious creatures that visit them, all living their own unique lives surrounded by nature.

Kukka owns over 100 Moomin mugs, with her first piece being the 2007 Winter Snow Lantern mug. Besides Moomin Arabia mugs, Kukka collects all sorts of Moomin goods, so her home is filled with Moominess! She stores her mug collection in a beautiful cabinet in her living room—does it look familiar to you?
We were about to throw away a dollhouse from my daughter's childhood when she suggested we refurbish it into a Moominhouse. Together, we dismantled the dollhouse, painted it, and reinforced the shelves. It became a beautiful display cabinet, now filled with Moomin mugs. The cabinet holds special memories: my daughter playing with it as a dollhouse, our time spent on the DIY project, and now, our shared love for Moomins.

Kukka celebrates Moomin’s Day each year at Moominvalley Park in Japan. A fond memory for her is when the park first opened, and she swapped a park-exclusive mug and a 65th anniversary Night Sailing mug with a friend living in Sweden.
Ultimately, collecting Moomin mugs is about more than just acquiring items; it's about the memories and stories each one carries. Each mug tells a unique tale, turning every sip into a reminder of those special mo(o)ments and adding a touch of magic to everyday life.
